Winnipeg, MB –The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1505, the Canadian Union of Public Employees -Manitoba, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2085 all announced their endorsement of Wab Kinew for leader of the Manitoba NDP today.
“Brian Pallister’s cuts to infrastructure renewal will cost our province good jobs and economic growth,” said Russ Shewchuk, Business Manager of IBEW 2085. “Wab Kinew is the leader we need to renew our party and offer an optimistic, jobs-focused alternative to Pallister’s short-sighted cuts.”
“We’ve all seen what Brian Pallister has done since being elected. He has cut services, attacked health care, hurt working families, and he is just getting started. Our party needs a fighter at its helm. Wab is that fighter,” said Terry Egan, CUPE Manitoba President. “Wab has proven himself to be a strong, genuine advocate for the working class. Wab’s approach is exactly what our party needs to fight against Conservative attacks on working families. He has vision, he has energy, and he has the ability to bring people together. CUPE members have heard Wab’s voice, we have seen his actions, and we will wholeheartedly rally behind him as leader of Manitoba’s New Democrats.”
“Working people deserve to be treated fairly and with respect. Families deserve strong public services, and Manitobans deserve positive leadership”, said John Callahan, President of the ATU 1505. “Wab Kinew has purpose and vision – he is the inspiring leader we need to move Manitoba forward”
“I am honoured to accept the support of members in these three unions,” said Kinew. “We need unions to fight for working families. I look forward to working together with them to make sure that no one gets hurt on the job, no family goes homeless, no child goes hungry, and no community struggles with the weight of these issues alone.”
